My wife and I used to live in Nanaimo, but that was almost 2 decades ago. The prospect of moving from Calgary to Nanaimo, with a long stint in Vancouver felt a little overwhelming. Would we like small town Nanaimo after living in Vancouver and Calgary? What’s changed since we left? Where are the best places to live and to avoid now?
This is now our 6th home we’ve purchased and I can say the experience working with Kiel is by far the best I’ve ever experienced. The level of attentiveness and partnership through the whole process was best in class. He is extremely knowledgeable, not only about the island and all the pros and cons of the various neighborhoods around Nanaimo, but his expertise when it comes to homes is also absolutely excellent. He knows exactly what to look for, is dead honest on what to avoid (even if it might cost him the sale).
To me a great realtor is your partner to try and find the home that’s the best fit for you and your family, in the best neighborhood, with the best value. Then I hope that they can come with a lot of expertise on neighborhoods, construction, markets, etc. Some realtors seem to keep that expertise to themselves to avoid influencing you. Some seem to be pushing for a decision quickly. Kiel did the opposite. He shared his expertise without pushing and demonstrated that he really was trying to find the perfect fit for us.
He knows the market. He knows the neighborhoods. He knows houses. He got to know our wants and dreams. And ultimately he helped us find our dream home after 6 months and easily more than 20 showings.
Kiel will be the best realtor partner you’ll find on the island. Don’t hesitate to reach out to him. He’ll take great care of you. Especially if you’re trying to transition from Calgary, Vancouver, or anywhere else. He’s the island guy who will help you find your way here.
Kiel is the best realtor! We moved here from the US, and it turns out there are quite a few major differences in the home-buying process between the two countries. Kiel has guided us thru this process with patience and assurance the whole way. He's a great negotiator, and he's great at translating a client's needs into a great home that works for their family.

We actually first met Travis at an open house. While other realtors we encountered were incredibly pushy trying to get our business, Travis stood out immediately because he was so calm, helpful, and completely down-to-earth. We never once felt pressured by him.
When it came time to find our home in Nanaimo, he absolutely went above and beyond. He blocked off multiple entire weekends for us and handled 100% of the scheduling. He even used the downtime between viewings to show us local spots and give us a real feel for the area.
Beyond being incredibly easy to connect with and having a laugh with him like a friend, Travis is a true professional. He was extremely attentive and answered every single question we had about the process, the area, the houses, and expected pricing right away. When it was finally time to put in an offer, I had absolutely no doubt we were in the right hands. It was also very clear that the selling realtors genuinely respected how he conducts business. If you want a realtor who is genuinely a great guy and a true professional, Travis is your guy.
Travis is nothing short of everything a realtor should be - kind, knowledgeable, understanding of our needs, and responsive. When my partner and I were house hunting, Travis never made us feel like he was ever trying to sell us something we wouldn't want, or coerce us into making any decisions that were not in our best interests. He acted as an advisory guide when we needed help, and was always honest and forthright with his advice to us without ever making us feel pressured or forced down a path we were not comfortable with. I jokingly told him when we first met him that he was the least "businessman-like" realtor we had met in Nanaimo, and he held true to that impression.
On top of that, Travis is also a blast to be around and is an all-around awesome person. We always looked forward to showings, partially because we would get to hang out with Travis!!

Such a kind, patient and supportive person - the best agent we could have wanted. Travis showed us so many condos until we found what we wanted and then helped us through all the steps to get it done. Unlike other realtors Kiel always volunteered a trove of important information and possible issues with each place we viewed. He was super friendly and caring for our needs.
As this has been a very stressful experience he also supported us emotionally based on his rich experience with his other clients.
At the end he also proved to be a master negotiator - something we really didn't expect and which proved to save a ton of money for us.

We found Travis to be quite personable from our first meeting. We found him to be very upfront, his communications were timely & helpful. He provided excellent suggestions, as did his brother Kiel, regarding the preparation of our house prior to the photo shoot. Travis did an excellent job of showing us houses with what we were looking for, and we found our house very quickly with him at under asking. He went above and beyond after the buy by helping us find contractors, coming over to help us fix a broken door, and going so far as to look up how to fix our dishwasher. I can’t find a reason not to work with him. He is very honest and provides precise answers. As first-time homebuyers, we asked the same questions multiple times, but he always responded kindly and patiently.
